The Prop Builder's Molding & Casting Handbook (Paperback)

I have this artistic bent that I need to feed now and then, and I get interested in lots of different things. About age 48 I started to get interested in how to make casts of things and duplicate them. This is just one of the books I bought on the subject. Most of my knowledge came from trial and error - plenty of error. But fun in the doing.

This book is not great - it assumes you know plenty already - somehow managing to have absorbed it from the either; or that you are in a class where someone is showing you what he is talking about.

Barrie, Bruner F.

Mold Making, Casting and Patina (Paperback)

Another book on molding. Again, it assumes alot about the reader, but nice to have if you are interested in the topic.

James, Thurston

The Prop Builder's Mask-Making Handbook

All sorts of ways to make masks. The leather masks look interesting. I may have to try that someday.

Paton, Becky

Garden Mosaics

I did a set of mosaic steps in the back yard of our house once. Just broken tile, shells, glass beads and tile ornaments; but it turned out pretty cool. I want to try some of the projects in this book when I get the time, and see if I can apply them to Burning Man in some way.

Martin, Judy

Basic Airbrush Painting Techniques: A Practical Buide to Creative Airbrushing

I got into using a airbrush for a while, and so picked up several books on the subject. Every book has some interesting tricks and tips about how to get various effects... some of them quite interesting. I got pretty good at fabric and ribbons, which I can see a use for in the future.

Parramon, Jose M.

Getting Started in Airbrush (Paperback)

Leek, Michael

The Encyclopedia of Airbrush Techniques (Hardcover)

Kosmoski , Jon

How to Custom Paint Graphics

This book is more about how to paint with an airbrush for cars, motor cycles, etc.

Someday I hope to have a junker car that I can paint to my hearts content... I think that would be fun.

Parks, Dennis W.

How to Paint Your Car (Motorbooks Workshop)

Fraser, Craig

Automotive Cheap Tricks & Special F/X

Murphy, Kathie

Resin Jewelry

Once I started to get casting down, and started doing some pretty large projects (large in number, not in size) I saw this book and thought it would be interesting to make some items that would appeal to more than just burners. I've not followed through on that, but one of these days. Still learning the basics, and want to do more 3d molding.

The Art of Metal Clay

I heard about this stuff, and then took a course at The Crucible in how to work with it. Basicall, metal clay is Silver or Gold that has been mixed with a polymer clay that can be worked and molded like any kind of clay. You create a small peice of jewelry in clay, and then you "fire" (you can use a kitchen torch like a chef would use to carmelize Creme Bruelle). The firing burns way the polymer, and you are left with a solid peice of silver or gold jewelry. And it doesn't shrink. Go figure.

This is about the neatest way to get into jewelry making... simple.. quick... easy to understand, and easy to do.
